The beauty of technology and social media in missionary work!

Ah, the beauty of technology and social media and video conferencing as a result of the coronavirus.

Part of the mission during a training via video conferencing
The California Riverside Mission is not fearing technology. Rather, we are embracing it in a big way. After we received inspiring social media training from the Church’s Missionary Department, we developed a Mission Social Media Council with three companionships of missionaries, the Assistants, two technology missionaries, and us. We met to develop a plan for our mission to become more “robust and vigorous” users of social media to fulfill our missionary purpose in spiritually innovative and creative ways.

From district council meetings....
to sister training leaders....
The Lord also said, “Therefore, verily I say unto you, lift up your voices unto this people; speak the thoughts that I shall put into your hearts, and you shall not be confounded before men…” (Doctrine and Covenants 100:5). Our missionaries are raising/lifting their voices virtually.

Consequently, the Mission Social Media Council developed several pages, which the missionaries populate each day. We have taken on the moniker “Disciples of Jesus Christ in (name of the city where they are). They are highly innovative and creative in developing gospel messages.

The Facebook pages are below, all 21 of them: ten English, nine Spanish, one Mandarin, and one American Sign Language (ASL) pages. We have since added a music page.

Please follow them and share them with your families, friends, neighbors, and others in your sphere of influence. We know if you do, you will feel the Spirit, gain a greater love for the Savior and His Atonement, and receive blessings for you and your family.

From around the world to the California Riverside Mission!

Missionaries who have been home for the past almost three months are now being reassigned to missions throughout the United States and Canada. We have been receiving several of them, and we are excited to received them. They speak Spanish, Fijian, Mandarin Chinese, Cebuano, America Sign Language (ASL), and English. Some of them are new missionaries who served in their "Home Missionary Training Center."

Our first missionaries arrived on three different days and nine different flights in the middle of May. What a busy three days. Many trips to the airport and then to church buildings to deliver the new missionaries to their new companions caused a bit of friendly chaos, but it was well worth it!

So many missionaries helped with transportation. Once the incoming missionaries arrived, we drove them to a particular building, and their companions were there waiting for them and then whisked them to their apartments to work.

One more flight, a new group of missionaries, a sack lunch, and a goody bag, and off they went to their new areas to meet their new companions.

Many came from various countries, including many from central and south America.

They came on a variety of flights. Normally, they all come in at the same time, which makes it easier to take pictures, both group and individuals, and transport them to where they need to go, but this round it was challenge to capture all their smiling faces, even behind the masks.

They all came with lots of smiles and bit of angst about a new area and technology and social media. They will be fine because they are choosing to be!
